Termination of Pregnancy

NOTICE TO PERSON ACCOMPANYING PATIENT

Today you are accompanying a woman who will have an abortion. She chose you for this special role.

To terminate a pregnancy is not an easy thing to do. The presence of a supporting and attentive person is essential.

For emotional as well as medical reasons, we ask that every patient be accompagnied.
Regarding the medical aspect, we need to inform you of the following:

  • no one is allowed to be present in the intervention room during the procedure

  • the patient will be receiving medication adapted to her own needs in order to assure
    her comfort

  • this medication, although not a general anaesthetic, could potentially alter, for a short time, and very lightly, the patient’s state of consciousness

  • for this reason, she must be allowed to recover by herself in the recovery room
under the supervision of the nurse. She will stay there for approximately 20
    minutes.

After that period of recovery, the patient will be able to leave the Clinic.  Your role as an accompanying person is very important at that stage.  It is absolutely forbidden for her to drive a car after the intervention because of the medication. Once at home, the patient must rest for a few hours in order to recuperate properly.  Therefore your presence will be very precious and will provide her with a sense of safety and understanding...
