Morning-after IUD for emergency contraception

Morning-after IUD for emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sex and you are worried you might pregnant, there are emergency contraceptive methods.

The emergency contraceptive pill can be taken up to 120 hours after intercourse. However, the earlier it is taken, the more effective it is. The emergency contraceptive pill is available in all pharmacies, without a doctor’s prescription.

The morning-after IUD : A morning-after IUD can be inserted up to 7 days after unprotected intercourse. It is a copper IUD. We can insert the morning-after IUD here at the Women’s Clinic.

Making an appointment

If you want a morning-after IUD, please call la Clinique des femmes. We will try to give you an appointment as soon as possible. You wil meet with a doctor who will explain the functionning and risks associated with the IUD and who will insert the IUD.

Follow up

It is recommended to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks after the IUD insertion to make sure you are not pregnant. A follow up appointment is recommended between 6 to 8 weeks after the insertion. Usually, your family doctor can do the follow up even if he/she does not insert IUDs. If you do not have a family doctor or your doctor does not do IUDs follow up, we can ensure the follow here at the Clinic.

If you have questions or concerns about the morning-after IUD, do not hesitate to call us.
